Join SOKC Library on Giving Tuesday as we create sensory quilts for donation to local facilities working with infants, individuals with disabilities, and older adults. Sew, stuff, tie knots, & more!
We're calling on the SOKC Community to give back this Tuesday! Join SOKC Public Library and the Cleveland County Extension Office as we create sensory quilts for donation to local facilities working with infants, individuals with disabilities, or older adults. Come sew, stuff, tie knots, & more!
Sensory or "fidget" quilts are popularly used with infants as well as individuals of all ages with dementia, sensory processing or attention disorders, limited mobility, and more. These small quilts incorporate a variety of colors and textures to safely engage the user in exploratory play and low-impact exercise, stimulating mental and motor development. For some individuals, sensory quilts also provide an outlet for restlessness or agitation, promoting greater calm.
This program is made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.
