Join us to discuss the PLS Reads books THE HATE U GIVE by Angie Thomas and SMALL GREAT THINGS by Jodi Picoult. The group will be led by a guest moderator. Both books contain mature theme and language.

THE HATE YOU GIVE Short Summary: Starr Carter--middle child, basketball player--becomes the center of a massive trial after a police officer shoots her childhood best friend right in front of her. As tensions rise in her family, neighborhood, and school, everyone has a different take on what happened, and Starr must find her own voice to be heard above the crowd.

SMALL GREAT THINGS Short Summary: Ruth Jefferson is an experienced labor and delivery nurse who not only knows how to guide women through labor, but also understands post-delivery needs such as a shoulder to cry on and lipstick. But her career and life change forever when she hesitates before helping a baby in cardiac arrest. The parents are white supremacists and don't want Ruth, who is African American, to touch their child. The hospital complies with their request, but the next day, the baby goes into cardiac distress while Ruth is alone in the nursery. Does she obey orders or does she intervene?

Join the Norman West Book Club which meets the 2nd Monday night of each month at 7 p.m.
