Join us at Norman Library West for the Medieval Fair Free Lecture Series as Dr. Andreea Marculescu from OU will present, "The Wicked Witch of the West: Brooms, Black Cats, and Stolen Babies".

Join us at Norman Library West for the Medieval Fair Free Lecture Series and learn about the "Wicked Witch of the West: Brooms, Black Cats, and Stolen Babies" presented by Dr. Andreea Marculescu. The sterotypical representation of a witch is that of an old, often physically impaired, childless female who is accompanied by a black cat, carries a broom, and plots to inflict "evil" in the world. This talk will explore the historical orgins of this portrayal, tracing it back to medieval theological discourse about demons, women, and heretics. The Medieval Fair Free Lecture Series is Co-sponsored by the Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies at the University of Oklahoma. Lecture starts at 6:15 p.m. and the Medieval Fair of Norman is April 6th-8th 2018.
