2020 marks the 16th Annual Crowns Tea, a community event based on the book, "Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats" by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry.
The Crowns Tea emphasizes the rich traditions of literature, music, the church hat, and gospel music in observance of Black History Month. This event is open to all ages and will include a reading from the book Crowns and a tea service. Attendees are invited to wear a hat in celebration as there will be the opportunity to have your portrait taken after the program.
The 2020 Crowns Tea will take place on February 23rd at 2 PM. The event is free but tickets are required. Tickets will first be released at the African American Read-In. After that time, tickets will be available while supplies last at the Norman Central Library, the Norman East Library, and the Norman West Library.
This event is made possible by the Friends of the Norman Libraries.
