Join us at the library to discuss the 2018 PLS Big Read book Five Skies by Ron Carlson! Free books are available at all Pioneer Libraries.

Join the SOKC Library and guest discussion leader Dr. Carolyn Cole for a though-provoking look at Five Skies by Ron Carlson. Five Skies is about three men, all emotionally damaged in different ways, come together at the edge of a remote chasm in Idaho. Their task is to construct a ramp from which a motorcyclist will launch herself, a la Evel Knievel. Two are naturally taciturn, and their personal pains make them almost mute. The third is a callow 19-year-old; all three are seeking a refuge from their anguish.

Dr. Cole, Crouch-Mathis professor of literature, taught at OBU for 25 years. Her varied professional expertise includes medieval and renaissance literature, contemporary Latin American literature, and rhetoric and composition. Cole sponsored student study programs in England, France, Germany, Hungary and Argentina.

Copies of Five Skies are available to take home at the Information Services Desk.

The 2018 PLS Big Read is sponsored by Norman Arts Council, Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, and the Pioneer Library System Foundation.

Registration is encouraged but not required.
