This year marks the 14th Annual Crowns Tea, an event based on the book, "Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats" by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry.
The Crowns Tea emphasizes the rich traditions of literature, music, the church hat and gospel music in observance of Black History Month. This event is open to ladies of all ages. Due to the popularity of the Tea, two identical seatings will be offered, one at 1:30 pm and the second at 3:00 pm. The event is free but tickets are required. Tickets will first be released at the African American Read-In on February 11th at 2 pm at the Norman West Library. After that time they will be available at the Norman Central and Norman West branches. Attendees are invited to wear a hat in celebration.
This event is made possible by a grant from the Norman Arts Council and the Friends of the Norman Libraries.
