Come out to Norman Public Library West for live music from double bassist Michael T. Geib! Listen to pieces and learn more about the lowest-pitched instrument in an orchestra.
Double Bassists are constantly searching for music to perform, as there is not an abundance of solo music written specifically for the instrument. Domenico Dragonetti’s 12 Waltzes are likely the first known works written for the unaccompanied modern double bass, yet they are not considered a standard part of the pedagogical repertoire. It is Michael's hope that these works will enable double bassists of all levels to add this wonderful, idiomatic music to their own performance catalog. This concert features these brilliant waltzes, as well as other short vignettes written during the 18th and 19th Centuries.
This recital will be performed on a late 1700’s Italian double bass built during Dragonetti’s lifetime, as well as a convex bow common during the Classical period. Some repeats have been changed or omitted in the spirit of maintaining a consistent structure amongst the waltzes.
