Join us for a discussion of this year's Big Read selection, "Five Skies" by Ron Carlson. Author and scholar Rilla Askew will be on hand to guide discussion and offer her own insights into the book.
Rilla Askew, a native Oklahoman born in the southeastern part of the state, is a novelist, essayist and short story writer. She is a graduate of the University of Tulsa and Brooklyn College. Her novels have won numerous awards: The Mercy Seat (1997), won the Oklahoma Book Award and the Western Heritage Award; Fire in Beulah (2001) about the Tulsa race riots, was awarded the American Book Award and the Myers Book Award; Harpsong (2007) set in 1930's Oklahoma, won the Oklahoma Book Award, American Book Award, WILLA Award, Western Heritage Award and the Violet Crown Award from Texas. Her latest novel is Kind of Kin (2013) about state immigration laws.
