Explore your interests and discover one of the many ways that you can express yourself through traditional Japanese craft. Designed for teens and adults. Registration required.
We all have an inner artist. Join us in discovering the endless possibilities of your creativity. You will be guided through this program exploring the traditional Japanese craft of tsumamizaiku to produce your own work of art. Tsumamizaiku are made using square pieces of cloth that are pinched and folded using tweezers to create ornate shapes. They traditionally adorn hair and obi when wearing kimono, but have seen recent popularity as keychains, hair clips, and bag adornments. This workshop will be led by an instructor from the Japanese Outreach Initiative at the University of Oklahoma. Participants will get to learn a bit about the 200-year history of this art form before making their own to take home.
Supplies will be provided. Please bring any additional materials to help support your experience and comfort. No prior experience is necessary for this program. Registration Required.
